How to Revive a Struggling Majesty Palm

This is the most skipped step — and one of the most important. Lay your cuttings on a paper towel or dry surface in a bright, indirect-light spot for 1–3 days. The cut end will form a dry, papery callous. Without this step, the raw cut absorbs moisture immediately and rots before roots can form.
You can callous cuttings in a shallow dry dish. Room temperature is fine — don't place in direct sun during callousing.
Step 3: Prepare the Pot
Fill a small pot with your 50:50 succulent mix and perlite blend. Moisten the mix lightly — it should feel barely damp, not wet. Soggy soil before roots form is the #1 cause of cutting failure.

Use a pencil or chopstick to make a small hole in the soil. Insert the bare stem section 0.5–1 inch deep. Firm the soil gently around the stem so the cutting stands upright or lays flat (both work — see the "lay flat" method below). Don't bury any pearls.

Light: Bright indirect light, 4–6 hours per day. No direct sun — it dehydrates unrooted cuttings rapidly.
Watering: Don't water for the first 5–7 days after planting. Then mist the soil surface lightly every 5–7 days. You're maintaining barely-there moisture — not watering like an established plant.
Temperature: 65–80°F is ideal. Avoid cold windowsills in winter.
Don't disturb: Resist the urge to check for roots by pulling on the cutting.
Step 6: Check for Roots
Roots typically form within 2–4 weeks in spring/summer. Signs that roots have formed:
Gentle tugging meets resistance (the roots have anchored)
New pearl clusters or tiny new growth at the base of the stem
Pearls remain plump and firm (indicating the cutting has water access)
Once rooted, you can transition to normal string of pearls care — brighter light, less frequent watering checks.
Method 2: Water Propagation
Water propagation is visually satisfying — you can watch roots develop in real time — and works reasonably well for string of pearls, though soil propagation produces more robust roots for long-term growth.
